Mac OS X lawsuit deal gets final approval

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge on Monday gave final approval for the class-action settlement that will allow some Mac OS X owners to get a refund for the operating system. The settlement calls for Apple to refund the cost of Mac OS X (up to US$129) to owners of some G3-based Macs who turn in their CDs. Those who feel that Mac OS X impaired their ability to run certain applications—but want to keep Mac OS X—can get a $25 e-coupon for use at the online Apple Store.

Apple releases new OS X security update

Apple on Monday released Security Update 2004-01-26 for Mac OS X 10.3 Panther via the Software Update preference pane. According to the release notes, the update offers several security enhancements and is recommended for all users. Apple said Security Update 2004-01-26 includes the following updated components: Apache 1.3, Classic, Mail, Safari, and Windows File Sharing.
