Plextor, Elgato debut new Personal Video Recorder

Plextor has teamed with Elgato to introduce a new USB 2.0 Personal Video Recorder (PVR) for Macs. The ConvertX PVR combines the Elgato EyeTV software with Plextor’s PVR video capture device with built-in TV tuner. The US$229.99 product uses a real-time MPEG-2 hardware encoder to capture and compress broadcast, cable, or satellite TV to a hard drive. It also supports RCA composite audio/video input and S-Video input connections for capturing home video from other sources such as camcorders, DVD players, and VCRs.

Adobe introduces Acrobat 7.0

Adobe today introduced Acrobat 7.0, a new version of its PDF (Portable Document Format) software. Users of the updated version will be able to assemble documents from multiple sources, create intelligent forms, and more securely collaborate on projects. Adobe also announced Reader 7.0, an update to its free application to view and print PDF files. Version 7.0 offers document reviews, Yahoo! Search capabilities at their fingertips, and the ability to interact with 3D objects placed in PDF.

Marathon RePorter extends USB, FireWire, audio ports

Marathon Computer today announced RePorter, a new device that extends USB, FireWire and audio ports from the rear of a Mac or PC to a more convenient location. It sports two USB ports, one FireWire 400 port, one FireWire 800 port, and Audio In and Audio Out (1/8″ stereo minijacks). RePorter features a spherical body made of high-impact injection-molded plastic, with a flat front face. A single 1.5-meter cable that splits apart into one-foot lengths reaches around to the computer’s rear panel.
