Apple updates Final Cut Express

Apple today posted Final Cut Express 2.0.2, the latest update to its digital video editing software. According to the release notes, version 2.0.2 includes changes to the user interface and window displays, documentation, and user preferences. The update also fixes known issues with audio and video syncing over FireWire, Timeline editing functionality, and capturing long clips. Apple said version 2.0.2 is “strongly recommended” for all users of the software.

Gateway makes bid for rival eMachines

Gateway plans to acquire rival eMachines “in a bid to regain its footing in the PC game and broaden the distribution of its Gateway-branded consumer electronics devices at retail,” reports CNET News.com. Gateway said it plans to purchase privately held eMachines for US$30 million in cash and 50 million shares of stock. Based on Gateway’s closing price of $4.09 per share Thursday, the total value of the deal would be around $234.5 million.
