iPod price reduced in Canada after levy decision

Canadian retailers such as Future Shop and Best Buy will reduce the price of all iPods in response to the recent Federal Court of Appeal decision throwing out the levy on music players with embedded memory. The price will be reduced by the amount of the previously imposed levy, which equates to CDN$25 for 20GB and 40GB iPods, and $15 for iPod minis. Apple Canada said it will also offer a price reduction.

HMV to go WMA for new digital music service

Music retailer HMV is teaming up with Microsoft in a £10 million deal to offer legal digital music downloads in the second half of 2005, reports the UK’s Times Online. The new service, which will be based on Windows Media Audio software, will not be compatible with iPods. “IPods are not compatible with Windows Media at the moment,” an HMV spokeswoman said in the story. “However, while Apple has been incredibly successful, products based around Windows are going to push up their market share.
