Music retailer HMV is teaming up with Microsoft in a £10 million deal to offer legal digital music downloads in the second half of 2005, reports the UK’s Times Online. The new service, which will be based on Windows Media Audio software, will not be compatible with iPods. “IPods are not compatible with Windows Media at the moment,” an HMV spokeswoman said in the story. “However, while Apple has been incredibly successful, products based around Windows are going to push up their market share. It is going to be important that the service is compatible with Microsoft.”
