Pixar moves ‘Cars’ release to summer 2006

Pixar and Disney today announced that they are moving the release date of “Cars” to June 9, 2006 from November 2005. “Cars longs to be a summer movie,” said Pixar (and Apple) CEO Steve Jobs. “We plan to finish Cars on its original schedule, and look forward to Cars and our future films benefiting by summer theatrical releases and holiday DVD releases.” Commenting on the announcement, Dick Cook, chairman of Walt Disney Studios, said, “The move… makes perfect sense. Sony to take on iPod with PSP

At this week’s UBS Media Week Conference in New York, Andrew House, executive vice president of Sony Computer Entertainment America, said he plans to take on Apple’s iPod by getting the Playstation Portable (PSP) in the hands of consumers as a gaming device and then use it to market music and video. The handheld gadget, which is expected to make its US debut in Spring 2005, uses a proprietary Sony storage disc format that can store about 2GB worth of content.

Warner Music CEO: Jobs doesn’t want interoperability

In addition to saying that iPod and iTunes will see competition from wireless network providers, Warner Music Group CEO Edgar Bronfman complained about Apple’s lock it has on the two products.
