Could Dashboard replace Sherlock?

Chris Bourdon, Apple’s Mac OS X product marketing manager, hinted yesterday that Dashboard and its Widgets (part of Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger) could take the place of Apple’s Sherlock application. “There certainly are, I think, some obvious overlaps between the two of them,” Bourdon said. “I suspect we will see some widgets that are built that have some similar functionality.” Bourdon declined to comment on whether Sherlock will remain part of Mac OS X when Tiger ships. “Sherlock is a really great application.

War of the Worlds, Chocolate Factory trailers in QuickTime

Apple’s movie trailers section has added the first trailer for the remake of “War of the Worlds.” The Steven Spielberg film stars Tom Cruise and will be released in “summer 2005.” Meanwhile, Yahoo has posted the first trailer for “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” which stars Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka. The Tim Burton movie is scheduled to be released in July 2005.

PayPal now accepted at iTunes Music Store

Apple today announced that the iTunes Music Store in the US now accepts PayPal for purchases of music downloads, audiobooks and gift certificates. Starting today, customers can use their PayPal account to pay at the store with a credit card, bank account or stored account balance. “We are thrilled that PayPal users can now buy their music on the world’s number one online music store,” said Todd Pearson, general manager of PayPal’s Merchant Services.
