New iPod mini manufacturer in Asia?

A report today on DigiTimes.com, claims Apple has secured another manufacturer of the iPod mini in Taiwan. The story says that Asustek Computer as received OEM orders, which it will fulfill from its plant in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province (China). In addition, Inventec Appliances, the first Taiwan-based iPod manufacturer, is “likely to secure orders for a similar version of the iPod from Hewlett-Packard,” according to the report. Neither company had any comment on the story.

Dvorak: iMac G5 ‘reminiscent of 1954 DeSoto’

After taking several jabs at Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president for worldwide product marketing, John C. Dvorak heavily crticizes Apple’s new iMac G5 in this latest commentary piece. “The machine comes in one old-fashioned color: 1988 platinum white,” he writes. “The design is hardly inspirational. In fact, if you put two headlamps on it and a metal sun visor over its “windshield,” it would be reminiscent of a 1954 DeSoto.”

Apple slams Microsoft Music service

The Wall Street Journal reports [paid sub. required] that Apple today slammed Microsoft’s new MSN Music service as “missing many features” and reiterated that its iTunes Music Store is by far the No.1 service. Apple noted that the iTMS has so far sold 125 million songs to Microsoft’s zero, and said that users of the MSN store face the disadvantage of not being able to play the songs on an iPod.
