Telestream offers Windows Media encoding support

Telestream today announced what it calls the industry’s first support for exporting or importing files in the Microsoft Windows Media format on Mac OS X. Telestream’s new support capabilities for Windows Media on the Mac enable users to create files in standard and high definition using Windows Media in either stereo or 5.1, directly on their Macs. The Telestream solution for Windows Media supports any QuickTime-based applications, including Final Cut Pro, iMovie, and QuickTime Player.

Microsoft plans to join mobile music market

It appears Microsoft is yet again following Apple’s lead. The software giant said today that it is aiming to get its multimedia software into mobile phones before it is beaten to the market by rivals like Apple. “Microsoft has quietly made preparations to make its media software available to chip and handset makers, enabling consumers to play music they have saved in the Windows Media format on their PCs on their handsets,” reports Reuters.

Marathon intros G5 Vertical Rackmount add-on

Marathon Computer today announced the G5 SideKick, which works with the company’s G5 Vertical Rackmount to turn the 7-inch space alongside the G5 into usable rackspace. “What we did was we designed a set of adapter plates that attach to the front of the G5 Vertical deck, and to the rack rails above it,” said Marathon spokesman David Soch. “That gives the user 4U of standard 19-inch rackspace — turned sideways — alongside a G5, supported at top and bottom.

Desktop pictures/icons weekly recap

Over the course of the past week, MacDesktops has posted 13 new desktop pictures, including: G5 (Apple – PowerMac G5), Let there be bats (Landscapes – Urban), and Sydney Bridge Flare (Landscapes – Urban). MacMonkies have released four new icon sets and five new desktops to its Gallery, while The Iconfactory have released “The Circus,” a new freeware icon set inspired by their friends and family with new babies on the way.
