Apple halts sales of iChat AV for Jaguar

Apple has quietly removed the Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) version of iChat AV from its online store. The page for the video and audio conferencing software on Apple’s Web site has also been stripped of all mentions of Jaguar and says that iChat AV now requires Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther) or later. iChat AV–introduced in beta form in June 2003 alongside Apple’s iSight–is free as part of Panther but was previously available to Jaguar users for US$29.95.

Firefox security update released

The Mozilla Foundation has released a security update for all versions of the Firefox Web browser. The 0.10.1 update will fix a security vulnerability that could allow a malicious hacker to “trick a user into saving a file that could delete files from a user’s download directory.” The organization recommends that all users upgrade to the latest version of the Firefox Preview Release.

Apple to introduce flash-based music player?

Citing “numerous sources in Asia,” Thomas Weisel analyst Jason Pflaum said today that Apple will use controller chips from semiconductor company SigmaTel for a new player it’s planning to launch before the holidays. But unlike Apple’s iPod and iPod mini, the new player will reportedly use solid-state flash memory, which offers less capacity but provides the company an opportunity to create a device smaller and lighter than the current iPod models. No other details were provided.
