At the International Forum in Tokyo this week, Olympus unveiled its first digital music player, the m:robe, reports The Register. The new iPod challengers comes in two sizes. The MR 500i plays MP3, WMA, and other digital format and photos, has a 3.7 inch VGA touch screen, and comes with a 20GB hard drive. The smaller MR-100 (shown at right) offers a 5GB hard drive and plays both WMA and MP3 file formats. Estimated retail pricing has been set at US$499 and $249 for the MR 5001 and the MR 100, respectively. Both are expected to be available in January 2005 in the US and in Europe in the in the spring.
