Kano Technologies has introduced its new plug-and-play X-SPAND desktop-storage tower system, which can add up to one terabyte of hard disk storage to a Mac or PC with a FireWire 400 or FireWire 800 connection. Users can purchase X-SPAND with 1TB of storage capacity pre-installed in the 4-bay model or 500GB in the 2-bay model — or with a smaller capacity that meets their current needs. Storage capacity can be increased as needed by adding standard Western Digital 3.5-inch IDE hard drives. X-SPAND comes with Dantz Retrospect Express automatic backup software for the Mac and Windows. Prices start at US$455 for the X-SPAND 2-bay and $835 for the X-SPAND 4-bay.
