– Brent Simmons, the developer of the NetNewsWire RSS newsreader, says that he is not surprised by Apple’s move to include support for the syndication format in the next version of Safari — and thinks it will actually help RSS reach mainstream users. “What I like about this announcement is that it popularizes syndication,” Simmons wrote on his weblog following the introduction of the new Safari at WWDC 2004. “Despite its fast growth, there’s still a huge education job to do. The average Mac user doesn’t know about the technology yet, but putting it in Safari means they will know about it, and it gives the technology a kind of validation, an Apple seal of approval, for the people who are slower to look at new technologies.”
