Apple has lost a court appeal seeking to have its trademark extended to include clothing and other items in China, reports AFP. “Xinhua said the trademark appraisal committee of China’s State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) had previously rejected Apple’s application from April 2000 to have its trademark logo extended to cover clothing, hats and shoes,” notes the report. Apple initially took action as a result of Guangdong Apples Industrial Co, which uses a logo (shown at left) very similar to Apple’s trademarked “apple with a bite out of it” logo.
