Sony is expecting its upcoming Connect music service to boost sales of its minidisc and compact disc players. But Apple CEO Steve Jobs said that devices such as Sony’s new Hi-MD disc player (which holds up to 45 hours of music on one $7 recordable disc) would not catch on in the U.S. the way it had overseas. “We have a very healthy respect for Sony,” Jobs said. “But Sony believes very strongly in the minidisc, and we don’t. It might work in Japan but not here.”
