Henrico County Public Schools is one of 23 national winners in the American School Board Journal’s 2004 Magna Awards. The school system was cited for its Teaching and Learning Technology Initiative, which has placed Apple laptops in the hands of every staff member and student in grades 6-12. The experiment in establishing a mobile, wireless, one-to-one computer-based learning system is believed to be the first of its kind in public education. In 2001-02, through a lease-purchase agreement with Apple Computer, all of Henrico’s high school students and teachers received iBooks. In 2002-03, all middle school students and teachers and all elementary teachers and staff received laptops.
