With a recent study by the Yankee Group stating that many small to medium sized businesses are wary of Microsoft’s motives, consultant Kevin Ledgister is encouraging small businesses to consider Macs running Mac OS X as an alternative. In a column at OS News, a Web site that offers “tech opinions for people by the people,” he writes that this recommendation is based on a factor that may surprise some people: cost. Among the reasons Ledgister finds Macs cost effective are “no viruses on the current Mac platform running the latest operating system,” reduced support calls and longevity (“several research firms have studied the difference in platform life and in every case, reported longer life cycles for the Macintosh platform over the PC”).
