New iMovie plug-in helps stabilize video

Digital Thought Software today announced the release of fxStabilizer, a US$34.95 iMovie plug-in that was developed to stabilize or smooth the shakiness associated with hand-held cameras. “Using complex mathematical equations and analysis, each frame of an iMovie clip is analyzed as part of the entire scene to determine the smoothest path in which to move or rotate the frame,” says the company.

.Mac users get ‘Members Only’ folder

The latest edition of Apple’s .Mac newsletter offers details on a new “Members Only” folder: “We’ve created the new Members Only folder inside the Software folder on your iDisk to make it drag-and-drop easy to get the software and other downloadable content you’re entitled to as a .Mac member. (The Software folder acts more like a portal than a container. What’s inside doesn’t count against your quota of iDisk space but instead provides direct access to content that lives elsewhere.)”

iPod owners begin ‘jack sharing’

Wired has an article today on iPod “jack sharing” — a new phenomenon of approaching strangers and plugging your headphones into their iPod and them doing the same in hopes of finding new music. “It’s very strange,” said Steve Crandall, who does the sharing ritual in his New Jersey hometown. “It’s almost like you’re being a DJ for the other person. It’s very gratifying if you see someone dancing around to the music you’re listening to.”
