Stupendous updates “SplitScreen & Picture-in-Picture” iMovie effects

Stupendous Software has updated its “SplitScreen & PiP” iMovie plug-in pack with four new picture-in-picture effects, for a total of 26 effects. The new effects feature colored borders and dropped shadows. A free demo download allows all effects to be previewed, and 4 of the effects are fully functional and can be applied. The update is free to Stupendous Software’s existing customers. Stupendous Software provides 10 plug-in packs for iMovie, featuring a total of 258 effects.

O’Reilly releases “Google Hacks”

O’Reilly today announced the release of “Google Hacks,” authored by Tara Calishain and Rael Dornfest. The US$24.95 book is “a unique collection of one hundred tips and tools gathered from expert users of Google, as well as developers who are excited about Google’s new API. The book offers a variety of interesting ways for power users to mine the enormous amount of information that Google has access to. Apple shipping dual 1.42 GHz Power Mac G4

Apple’s Web site has been updated with a graphic stating that the dual 1.42 GHz Power Mac G4 is “now shipping.” The high-end Power Mac (US$2,699), which was announced in January along with two others, is based on Apple’s Xserve architecture, including up to 2MB of Double Data Rate (DDR) Level 3 cache and 333 MHz DDR memory, and symmetric multiprocessing capabilities delivering 21 gigaflops (21 billion floating point operations per second) of performance.

Propellerhead releases Reason 2.5

Propellerhead Software has released Reason 2.5, an update to its flagship music production software. Version 2.5 adds four new sound processing tools and two utilities for signal path routing. Reason sells for US$399 and works with both Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X. Reason 2.0 registered users can download the 2.5 update for free.
