Macromedia posts Q4 profit

Macromedia, developer of Flash and Dreamweaver, today posted a net profit of US$6.9 million, or 11 cents per share, for its fourth-quarter ended March 31. In the year-ago quarter, the company lost $83.4 million, or $1.42 a share. Revenue rose nearly 10 percent to $83.6 million, up from $76.3 million last year. Macromedia said its sees fiscal 2004 revenues rising 10 percent to 20 percent from $336.9 million in fiscal 2003.

Mossberg: iTunes store is ‘an enormous step forward’

Walt Mossberg writes in the Wall Street Journal, “This week, Apple Computer launched the first really useful, and enjoyable, legal music service, the iTunes Music Store. It’s an enormous step forward, and the first online music service I can recommend. This new Apple service also is bound by some restrictions insisted upon by the big labels. But these limits are so much more liberal than the ones imposed by the earlier ventures that it’s as if the other services never existed.

AOL talking to Apple about use of iTunes store?

Buried in Fortune’s extensive coverage of Apple’s new iTunes Music Store and iPods is an interesting section on a possible Apple partnership with AOL. “How many Windows iPod owners know what they’re missing by not using OS X? Do any of them really care? Perhaps that’s why Jobs is rolling out iTunes for Windows too. In fact, [Warner Music Group CEO] Roger Ames is trying to broker a deal in which AOL would adopt iTunes as its music-management software.

Apple developing iTunes for Windows

Apple is developing a version of iTunes for Windows, according to job postings on the company’s Web site and Monster.com. “Apple Computer is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to design and build one of our newest Consumer Applications, iTunes for Windows. Must be possess strong skills in the areas of application design, solid API design principles, user interface engineering, and have a strong understanding of customer and workflow issues. Experience with Windows logo certification preferred.
