Apple meeting with independent music labels this week

Apple is reaching out to independent labels in hopes of expanding its catalog of downloads available from the iTunes Music Store, according to MTV News. “Apple has invited hundreds of indie label representatives to a private presentation on Thursday at the computer giant’s Cupertino, California, campus to discuss hopping onboard and adding their content to the more than 200,000 songs already available through the service.

iMovie update improves performance, stability

Apple today posted iMovie 3.0.3, the latest version of the company’s popular digital video editing application. The update “provides improved performance and stability for iMovie 3. Refinements to the Ken Burns Effect allow greater pan and zoom control on digital images, and make it easier to crop digital stills. QuickTime 6.3 is required for improvements to audio sync and audio integrity.”

‘Envoy’ download manager for HTTP, FTP, Gnutella debuts

Bains Software has released Envoy 1.0, a download manager for HTTP, FTP and Gnutella downloads. It can “seamlessly” resume transers (including those started from other programs) and features an integrated Gnutella client, which makes finding and downloading shared music and other media easy. Envoy also features multiple download folders, a Download Log, and the application’s queue can be started/stopped at specified times. Envoy, available for both Mac OS 9 and OS X, is US$18 shareware.
