Power Mac G4 hard drive update for OS X released

Apple has released Hard Drive Update 1 for Mac OS X, which improves the longevity of some hard drives shipped in certain Power Mac G4s, including the Cube, and Power Macs known as “AGP Graphics,” “Digital Audio,” “Gigabit Ethernet,” and “Quicksilver.” According to Apple, most drives do not need this update. You can check the drives in your computer by running this update. If the update is needed, a message will alert you.

iMovie in ‘Final Jeopardy’

MacMinute reader Andrew Abdalian wrote in to let us know that iMovie’s Ken Burns Effect was the subject of today’s “Final Jeopardy” answer on the popular game show, Jeopardy. The question read: “In Apple’s iMovie program, the effect seen here [queue sepia tone panning and zooming shots of the Jeopardy set with fife and drum music in the background], done with pictures, is named for this TV filmmaker.”

Sony US CEO: iTunes Music Store a ‘wake-up call’

The head of Sony’s US operations said on Wednesday that the April launch of Apple’s iTunes Music Store was a “sea change” and a “wake-up call.” “Steve Jobs has liberated us,” Sony US CEO Howard Stringer told media executives and press at a breakfast hosted by The New Yorker and Syracuse University’s Newhouse School. “We’re all doing the same things and providing our own solutions… In the technology age, everything can be duplicated quickly.”
