O’Reilly publishes ‘iPod: The Missing Manual’

O’Reilly has released “iPod: The Missing Manual,” authored by New York Times tech columnist J.D. Biersdorfer. The US$24.95 book “not only covers all iPod models for both Mac and Windows, including the super-slim 2003 series, it’s also the ultimate guide to iTunes, MusicMatch Jukebox Plus, and even the new iTunes Music Store,” according to the publisher. Biersdorfer writes with “humor and authority,” providing “an astonishing collection” of useful tips, tricks, and shortcuts.

Unsanity releases Silk update

Unsanity today released Silk 2.0.2, the latest update to its “haxie” that enables the Quartz text rendering and smoothing introduced in Mac OS X 10.1.5 to work in all Carbon applications, including Netscape, Mozilla, and others. Apple to continue Mac OS X feline theme

It seems Apple will continue the feline naming theme for future Mac OS X updates. Numerous readers note that Apple filed trademarks earlier this month with the US Patent & Trademark Office for the names Lynx, Cougar, Leopard, and Tiger. The trademarks were filed under the category of “computers; computer software; computer operating system software.” As many know, Apple has highly publicized and referred to Mac OS X 10.2 as Jaguar and the forthcoming 10.3 update as Panther, their original code names.

Canon introduces CanoScan LiDE 80 scanner

Canon today unveiled the CanoScan LiDE 80 USB 2.0 scanner, an ultra-slim bus-powered flatbed unit that offers scanning with up to 2400×4800 dpi resolution and 48-bit color (both input and output) for over 281 trillion possible colors. The LiDE 80 will come with a film adapter unit (FAU) that allows you to scan a 35mm un-mounted frames (positive or negative). The US$179.99 scanner comes with a host of Mac software, including Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0.
