‘Apple good, PC bad’ in movies and TV

In his latest column for the Chicago Sun-Times, Roger Ebert tackles the question of why Macs seem to always be used by the “good guys” in films and television shows, while the “bad guys” use PCs. “Since many Windows machines look alike, Apple is one of the few manufacturers that can gain by product placement, which accounts for some of the Macs,” writes Ebert. “It’s true that the movie industry and creative types in general prefer the Mac.

Xbench updated for use with Power Mac G5

Spiny Software has announced the release of Xbench 1.1, the latest version of its comprehensive Mac OS X benchmarking application. The new version is optimized for use with the Power Mac G5. It was compiled with GCC 3.3, Apple’s new compiler, which generates optimal code for the new G5. Xbench is freeware.
