Our friends at PC Weenies let us know that they are celebrating the 500th cartoon installment to the site. The PC Weenies cartoon was first published on the Web on October 21, 1998. Since then the cartoon has appeared on News.com, and is now officially published in print by EE Times. The PC Weenies is a twice-weekly technology cartoon focusing on the computing misadventures of the Weiner family, and it is created using 100% Macintosh technology.

Impression backup utility now optimized for G5s

The Babel Company has announced the availability of Impression 1.71, the latest release of the company’s backup software solution for Mac OS X. Version 1.71 has been fully recompiled to take advantage of the capabilities and speed of the new Power Macintosh G5 architecture. In addition, this release also fixes a lone bug in the backup application for Mac OS X. Impression is priced at US$25. The company also announced that it is holding a online garage sale with lots of equipment available on Impression’s home page.

Desktop pictures/icons weekly recap

Over the course of the past week, MacDesktops has posted 14 new desktop pictures, including: Betty Page (Portraits) and Bridge at beach (Landscapes – Rural). Mandolux has issued ten new desktops: four Technosis/Anthraxis Two (Abstract/Macro), one Austere Petals (Nature/Macro), and five Appreciation Week (Vector) wallpapers. MacMonkies have added four new icon sets (three icon sets and one Monkie Bundle) and seven new deskops.

DiscBlaze gains ISO Disc image burning

Radical Breeze today released DiscBlaze 2.0.3, the latest update to its disc burning utility. Changes in version 2.0.3 include the ability to burn ISO disc images, revamped and updated Burn Lists, and the option to set which platforms (Mac or PC) specific files are visible on when on a Mac/PC hybrid disk. DiscBlaze requires MacOS X 10.2.6 or higher and costs US$19.
