PublicSpace.net has released A Better Finder Launcher 1.0, a new keyboard-based application launcher for Mac OS X. “Simply press the Control-Command-L keyboard combination and start typing the name of the application. After only the first few letters A Better Finder Launcher will have narrowed down the matching application names to a single one; then simply hit the return key to launch the application.” A Better Finder Launcher is US$9.95 shareware.

Apple to post biggest revenue increase in 7 quarters

Bloomberg notes that Apple is expected to report its biggest revenue increase in seven quarters today after the markets close. According to the average forecasts of analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial, fourth quarter sales should rise 15 percent, with net income of 7 cents a share on $1.7 billion in revenue, compared with a loss a year earlier. Analysts are pointing towards the success of Apple’s iPod, iTunes Music Store, Power Mac G5, and new PowerBooks as the reason for the good financial news.

The Mozilla Organization has released updates to Mozilla, Firebird and Thunderbird. Mozilla 1.5, the latest version of the popular open-source Web application suite, offers several improvements to MailNews and Composer, enhanced tabbed browsing, as well as the usual “improved performance, stability, standards support and Web compatibility.” Firebird 0.7 is the new version of the lightweight Web browser.
