Apple carefully opens the iPod to developers

CNET News.com has an article on how Apple is starting to let other companies join in the act of enhancing the iPod. In the article, Tim Deal, an analyst with Technology Business Research, said Apple is trying to strike a balance by opening the iPod to some developers but not making it a total open platform. “I think by offering a (developer) kit they would expand their opportunity for innovation, and thus multiply their organic development efforts,” Deal said.

Intel CEO on Mac OS X port, Apple market share

When asked in a ZDNet interview if he expects Mac OS X to ever run on Intel processors, Intel CEO Craig Barrett said: “We keep trying, but frankly it gets less and less interesting each year. When they were 10 percent of the market it was a more interesting issue. But at 2 percent of the market…our sales can blip 2 percent quarter on quarter, so we can shrink or grow by a couple of Apples. There are lots of interesting aspects in there.

FireWire Depot leaving California, heading East

FireWire Depot said today that it has decided to leave California and head East, but that “it has nothing to do with Arnold the Governator.” On Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, FireWire Depot will be moving from Napa, California, to Acworth, Georgia. During the move the company’s Web site will still be available for online orders, but there will be no e-mail from Oct. 28-Nov. 1, and it will not be shipping any products between Oct 28-Nov 3.
