PowerLogix has announced new PowerForce G4 Dual CPU upgrade cards running at speeds of 1.2GHz (US$799) and 1.4GHz ($1,199). The new cards use the Motorola PowerPC 7457 chip, which draws 40 percent less power than the previous 7455-based cards and offers twice the L2 cache (512K). The cards are compatible with all PowerMac G4 towers beginning with the “AGP Graphics” model, up to and including the “QuickSilver 2002.” The upgrades are expected to begin shipping in approximately 1-2 weeks, with constrained supplies of the higher speed model.
