During a lecture at the Royal Society in London yesterday, Tim Berners-Lee told the audience that he invented the World Wide Web using a computer from NeXT (the company created by Apple CEO Steve Jobs), according to Macworld UK. In addition, he presented his lecture using Apple’s Safari Web browser on a PowerBook and referenced the Web’s potential by talking about the possibilities of iCal. NeXT was founded by Jobs after he was forced out of Apple in 1985 in a power struggle with John Sculley. In 1997, Apple acquired NeXT and its operating system became the basis for Mac OS X. Jobs later returned to the position of Apple CEO permanently.
