Canon today unveiled two new dual-function Mini DV camcorders — the Optura 300 and the Optura Xi — which offer video and still image capture, as well as PictBridge direct-printing capability. The camcorders feature a 1/3.4-inch 2.0 megapixel CCD, 10x or 11x optical zoom and a 200x and 220x digital zoom, respectively. Both models can record in 4:3 aspect ratio or 16:9 widescreen mode, feature image stabilization systems, and sport USB and FireWire interfaces. Both camcorders also use two varieties of media — Mini DV tape for recording video, and SD memory cards for storing still images and short MPEG-4 movie clips. The Optura Xi will be available in August and the Optura 300 will be available in September for US$1,499 and $1,299, respectively.
