LaCie has announced the launch of a new line of desktop hard drives that support the faster FireWire 800 interface that debuted in Apple’s 17″ PowerBook G4 on Tuesday. The new drives are housed in LaCie’s award-winning d2 design and offer data-transfer speeds of 800Mbps, two times faster than the 400Mbps of the current implementation of FireWire. The LaCie d2 FireWire 800 hard drive family will ship next month in the following capacities: 200GB 7200RPM/8MB (US$479), 250GB 5400RPM/2MB ($539), 400GB ($879), and 500GB ($999).
