Aladdin reports third-quarter profit

Aladdin Systems, makers of Spring Cleaning and the StuffIt line of compression products, today reported a third-quarter profit of US$336,163 on revenues of $1,943,060. In the year ago quarter, the company posted a $387,102 loss on revenues of $1,569,108. “Being profitable in this economy is important,” said CEO Jonathan Kahn in a statement.

Student filmakers in Maine

In an article posted on Wired today, Katie Dean reports on seventh-graders in Maine using iBooks and iMacs to write screenplays. The students are also using digital video cameras and Apple’s iMovie to make their own films. The new additions to the classroom are due to Governor Angus King’s initiative to bring iBooks to every seventh-grader in Maine.

Centromedia releases Address Office 3.5

Centromedia today released Address Office 3.5, the latest version of its free information manager that stores and sorts names, addresses, phone numbers, URLs, AIM, ICQ and email addresses. The update adds an email mailing-list feature, a print of address list, a calculator, drag-and-drop text files, and fixes several minor bugs. Native Instruments has released Traktor DJ Studio 2.0, a new version of the company’s powerful DJ mixing software. The release is the first version available for Mac OS X, and includes around 40 new functions, a redesigned user interface, extended mixer features, new tempo-synched loop and cue functions, new filters, over 400 remote controllable functions and actions, and a powerful quick search function.
