Mac OS veteran returns to Apple

Apple today announced that Dr. Guy “Bud” Tribble has returned to the company as vice president of Software Technology. Tribble’s roll will be to help define Apple’s software engineering group’s technical direction, and he will be reporting to Avie Tevanian, senior Apple vice president of Software Engineering. Tribble began his career at Apple as manager of the original Macintosh Software team, and helped design the Mac OS and user interface. Most recently, Tribble was vice president of Engineering at Eazel, Inc.

XLR8 lower upgrade prices

XLR8 today reduced prices on its MACh Speed and MACh Carrier lines of G3 and G4 upgrades. Specifics on the MACh Speed reductions are unavailable at this time, while the Carrier products, which allow users to add faster ZIF processors to their non-ZIF-based Power Macs, have been reduced as follows: Carrier ZIF: US$79 ($30 lower), Carrier MPe $99 ($20 lower), and Carrier SSE: $119 ($30 lower).
