Court rejects Microsoft’s proposed settlement plan

U.S. Federal Court Judge J. Frederick Motz has rejected Microsoft’s proposed settlement of more than 100 class-action antitrust suits that called for placing some US$1 billion of computers and Microsoft software in America’s poorest schools, according to Reuters. Motz cited inadequate funding and the potential for giving Microsoft an edge over its competitors as the main factors in his decision.

Apple dealers report “overwhelming” orders for $1,799 iMac

A check of eight Apple independent dealers in the east and central U.S. by MacMinute reveals that advanced orders for the high-end, US$1,799 iMac are exceeding expectations. Dealers in Chicago, Ft. Lauderdale, Boston, Dallas, Detroit, Kansas City, Nashville, and Washington, DC, all report having already taken between 20 and 60 orders for the new flat-panel iMac, which is slated begin shipping by the end of the month.
