Intuit has released a maintenance update for its popular tax preparation software for the Mac, TurboTax for Mac Deluxe 2001. Users can automatically download and apply the update from the “Online” menu within the application. Alternately, users can download and apply the update manually. TurboTax Deluxe 2001 sells for US$49.95.

Apple will webcast its first-quarter financial results conference call on Wednesday, January 16, beginning at 17:30 ET — 30 minutes later than usual. Analysts expect the company to post a profit of US$35-$40 million, according to First Call/Thomson FN.

A New York Times [free registration required] article discusses Time Magazine’s exclusive cover story unveiling the new flat-panel iMac, which was inadvertently posted the night before its unveiling on Time‘s Canadian Web site. Hailed as one of the understatements of the year, the article quotes Time Magazine Toronto Bureau Chief Steven Frank on the error: “I know there was some kerfuffle about it,” said Mr. Frank.

ATI Technologies has released updated Mac OS 9.x drivers for retail versions of its popular Rage 128 and Radeon-based graphics cards. The new update fixes problems discovered with last week’s update, including missing Applevision controls in the Monitors control panel and various problems with the Radeon Mac Edition. The update requires QuickTime 5.0 or later and OpenGL 1.2.2 or later (available in Mac OS 9.2.1 and later only).
