With yesterday’s rollout of Apple’s new Power Mac G4 systems, the company has announced it will no longer offer on-site service as part of the one-year warranty for new Power Macs. MacMinute has learned the dramatic change in policy affects only warranties of products announced beginning this year. The previous warranty, which covers products introduced between January 1, 1998 and December 31, 2001, are not affected by this policy change. In addition, products announced during that period but bought in 2002 are not affected.

O’Reilly recently published two new tutorials: part two of Learning the Mac OS X Terminal, and how to incorporate QuickTime content into Cocoa applications.

Apple’s Power of X Presentation from Macworld Expo San Francisco, where Avie Tevanian and Phil Schiller discussed and explored Mac OS X, is now available for viewing in QuickTime. The presentation runs about 70 minutes in length.

iCab Preview 2.7.1, the latest release of the alternative Web browser for Mac OS 8/9 and Mac OS X, is has been posted. Version 2.7.1 offers several bug fixes and is available for download now. The preview release of the browser is free to use, but the authors are already accepting registrations of US$29 for the final product.
