Symantec today announced Norton Internet Security 2.0 and Norton SystemWorks 2.0, Mac OS X versions of its suite of utilities. Norton Internet Security 2.0 consists of the new Norton Privacy Control, Norton Personal Firewall 2.0, Norton AntiVirus 8.0, Who’s There? Apple has released Mac OS X 10.1.3 via the Software Update control panel. As noted two weeks ago, the update expands support for both CD burning (adding devices from EZQuest, LaCie, MCE, QPS, Sony, and Yamaha), Image Capture and iPhoto (adding cameras from Canon, Kodak, and Sony), adds support for DVD playback on an external VGA display connected to a PowerBook G4, SSL encryption in Mail, improves iTunes’ full-screen visuals, and more.

Be sues Microsoft over antitrust practices

Be Inc., the company behind the BeOS that once positioned itself as an alternative to the Mac OS, has filed suit against Microsoft alleging that the software giant’s anti-competitive practices destroyed its business, according to Reuters. Be claims Microsoft struck deals with PC makers that prohibited them from including other operating systems with PCs, eliminating Be’s chances of gaining a foothold in the PC industry.
