Apple today unveiled the Xserve, its highly anticipated rack-mount server that packs high-end features in a 1U enclosure. The Xserve utilizes double-data rate (DDR) SDRAM — the first Mac to do so — with support for up to 2GB and features dual Gigabit Ethernet, three PCI slots, and support for four Ultra ATA/100 hard drives, another first on the Mac.

Intelli Innovations today released iPrompter 2.0, an upgrade to the company’s low-cost text prompting software, making it compatible with Mac OS X. iPrompter 2.0 sells for US$29.95 and is compatible with Mac OS 9 and later. A full-featured demo version is also available.

Apple has posted a fairly in-depth TARGET=”_top”>feature about the new Stronghold game being released by MacSoft later this month, as noted by TARGET=”_top”>MacCentral. The game, which was developed by Firefly Studios, is a castle-builder/real-time strategy set in the middle ages. Also available on TARGET=”_top”>Apple’s game site is a QuickTime trailer for MacPlay’s strategy/action game, Sacrifice.

TARGET=”_top”>Addonics Technologies has TARGET=”_top”>announced two new additions to its DigiDrive line of multi-format Flash Card readers. The Mini DigiDrive, which weighs in at 5 ounces and measures 3.75 x 3.18 x .6 inches, supports CF-I, CF-II, Smart Memory, Memory Stick, Micro Drive, Multimedia Card, and Secure Digital Card media types. The Addonics Mini DigiDrive retails for US$49.

Microtek has began shipping the ScanMaker 6700, a 4800×2400 dpi scanner with FireWire and USB connectivity. The 6700 also includes a built-in transparency adapter and sells for US$399.99 an optional 50-page document feeder is $199.99.
