Major players give nod to Xserve

Several companies have committed support to Apple’s new Xserve, according to a page on Apple’s public relations page that includes quotes from the companies. Among those companies are Oracle (“Xserve combined with Mac OS X Server software is a superior platform for Oracle9i Database”), Sybase (“We are committed to becoming the standard enterprise database running on Mac OS X”), and HP (“We are delighted to continue our tradition of working with Apple by extending HP OpenView management software to the Mac”).

Kick-off! 1.5 supports OS X, UPS systems

Sophisticated Circuits has released Kick-off! 1.5, bringing their automatic-crash-recovery device to Mac OS X and adding new support for use with uninterruptible power systems. The new software also features the ability to start up the computer whenever power returns after an outage. Kick-off! 1.5 is available immediately and carries a retail price of US$179 — upgrades from 1.0 are $35, and are available free through the end of this year to registered owners who purchased the product after January 1, 2002.
