Out of Bay of Plenty, New Zealand, today comes word of the immediate availability of SubRosa Volume 1 – File Utilities. SubRosaSoft, Ltd. has taken over development of the security utility from FWB and promises that it this is the “first of many new security software developed exclusively by SubRosaSoft.” The press release notes, “And to thank our early adopters of the Software, all FWB SubRosa users will be eligible for a free upgrade to the latest version of SubRosa Vol.

CompuCable has announced that it is shipping its 2-Port USB 2.0 CardBus Host Controller with support for Mac OS X, according to a report on MacCentral. The USB 2.0 CardBus host controller supports MacOS 8.6, 9.x and OS X, and works with 3.3 Type II PCMCIA.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Microsoft are in talks to resolve allegations that the software giant “misrepresented its financial statements to satisfy Wall Street’s demands for steady revenue and profit growth.” The settlement is still weeks away, according to reports, but surprisingly, Microsoft is not expected to be levied with any fines. Instead, a company in this situation normally “pledges to abide by SEC rules,” say people familiar with the issue.

Connectix has posted Virtual PC 5.0.3, an update to the company’s PC emulation software. Version 5.0.3 includes a new version of the Virtual PC Additions, which are supported in Windows 95, 98, Me, NT 4.0, 2000, XP Home and XP Professional. Other feature additions include: password protection and security, sockets-based shared networking, advanced com port settings, cpu usage controls, long filename support for shared folders and more. A number of bug fixes have also been included.

Microsoft is soliciting feedback for its range of Macintosh applications, as noted by MacCentral. The feedback form allows users to make suggestions on how the company can improve various aspects of its products.
