Europe bans spam, though effects may be moot

The European Parliament has voted to ban spam, according to The Register. The new legislation, expected to be in place some time next year, would require users to “opt in” to receive commercial email. Pundits note, however, that the legislation will only have a minimal impact on reducing spam, as an estimated nine out of ten pieces of spam are untraceable or come from outside of Europe, which is beyond the scope of the new law.

Mac OS X theme creation software in beta

XThemination has released ThemeShop 0.5, the first public beta of its software for creating custom Mac OS X appearance themes. The documentation notes that the beta release “is in no way intended to be perfect or even fully functional. It is intended to be usable to some degree and it lacks many features planned for the future.”
