Jaguar could ship in early August

Apple may release Jaguar, the upcoming Mac OS X upgrade, as early as August, according to c|net, which quotes sources as saying development is ahead of schedule. While Apple has previously said Jaguar will ship some time in late summer, such release dates have generally arrived at the very end of the season. The early release may be due in part to an effort to boost fiscal fourth quarter revenues, c|net speculates.

Casady & Greene has announced upgrade and competitive upgrade pricing for TimeSlice 2.5, its time-billing software for Mac OS 8.6 and later and Mac OS X. Registered users of version 1.x or 2.x can upgrade for US$29.95, while users of the recently discontinue Timeslips, TimeShark, or Sambucus for Mac can purchase the software for $39.95. TimeSlice 2.5 sells for $59.95 on its own.

Influential government think tank scraps Macs

MITRE, a not-for-profit corporation that provides systems engineering, research and development, and information technology support to the U.S. government, is discontinuing internal support for Macs, MacMinute has learned. “Macintosh-compatible products either lag the market or, because of limited market share, don’t exist at all,” an email sent to members of the company explains. Macs will still be allowed to be ordered for lab and research use, however.
