Maine laptop plan faces more criticism

New York adding two Apple retail stores next week

Along with the opening of its retail store in New York City’s SoHo district next week, Apple also plans to open a store at the Roosevelet Field Mall in Garden City, Long Island, according to Newsday. The SoHo store will open on Thursday, July 18, during Macworld Expo New York, while the Roosevelt Field store will open on Saturday, July 20.

Watson update adds weather tool

Karelia has released Watson 1.5.4, a minor update to its popular Mac OS X front-end for many Web-based services. Watson 1.5.4 corrects outstanding bugs and updates some of the current modules, while adding a new Weather module. Watson costs US$29 for a single-user license, or $39 for a household license.

XLR8 announces dual-550MHz G4 upgrades

XLR8 today announced a dual-550MHz G4 upgrade for Graphite Power Mac G4 systems. To take advantage of the upgrade, customers send their current single- or dual-processor G4 card to XLR8, which then upgrades the card’s processors and tests the performance. The upgrade costs US$429.00. XLR8 also offers an “Advance Ship Option” whereby the company sends the user a 550MHz G4 processor card to use while the upgrade is being performed. The customer then sends the loaner card back to XLR8 when they receive their dual-550MHz upgrade.
