Intuit today announced Quicken 2003 for Mac OS Classic and Mac OS X. The personal finance application features a number of enhancements, such as the Scheduled Updates feature, making it easier to use than previous versions. Quicken 2003 is compatible with Mac OS X and Mac OS 9, and will be available August 21 for US$59.95.

Apple releases iTunes 3, updates iPods

Apple has released iTunes 3, which is now available as a free download. New features include smart playlists that automatically add music, music ratings, consistent playback volume and Audible.com support. Additionally, the company unveiled a 20GB iPod for US$499 and cut the price of the 5GB and 10GB iPods to $299 and $399, respectively. Additionally, the 10GB iPod is 10 percent slimmer and both the new 10GB and 20GB models include a case and remote control.

Flat-panel iMac expands to 17-inches

Apple today announced a larger flat-panel iMac with a 17-inch display. Featuring the 800MHz PowerPC G4 and a 1440×900 resolution, the display offers 64 percent more pixels than the 15-inch model. The model also features a GeForce4 MX graphics chip. The 17-inch iMac carries a US$1,999 price tag. In addition, Apple cut the price of the 15-inch SuperDrive iMac to $1,799 from $1,899.

Apple announces new .mac-enabled applications

Apple today unveiled iCal, a calendaring application, and iSync, an application for synchronizing data with cell phones, PDAs, and the iPod. Both applications will offer .mac support, allowing users to easily share calendars and synchronize information between Macs. iCal and iSync will both be available as free downloads in September and require Mac OS X 10.2.

iTools becomes .Mac for $99 a year

With 2.2 million members currently, Apple today announced officially a name change from iTools to .Mac, added features and a US$99 a year price tag. .Mac features IMAP/POP/Web email, 100MB of storage, back-up software, and anti-virus software. Current iTools customers can purchase .Mac for $49 a year.
