Other World Computing today introduced the Mercury G3/533MHz and G4/550MHz ZIF upgrades for the PowerMac G3 Beige, G3 Blue & White and G4 “Yikes” models. The new Mercury ZIF are plug-and-play upgrades, that are fully compatible with all Apple hardware and software. The Mercury G3/533MHz ZIF is priced at US$219.97 and the G4/550 ZIF is priced at $259.97.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs was quoted today as saying that the economic slowdown, which will probably last for another nine months, is going to be a “bumpy ride.” He told analysts that “We play the hand we’re dealt. We don’t see things getting better in the next six months, probably the next nine months, and that’s as far as our headlights go out,” but added that the downturn would be a great time to try to gain more market share for Apple.
