Macworld Expo keynote served up to 50,000 viewers on Apple hardware

Approximately 50,000 people used QuickTime to view the live webcast of Steve Jobs’ Macworld Expo keynote last week, according to an Apple press release. Of those, about 25,000 used QuickTime 6 and viewed the MPEG-4 stream of the keynote, making it the first large-scale web event to be streamed in that format using a complete Apple solution. Four Apple Xserve servers using QuickTime Streaming Server 4.1, QuickTime Broadcaster, and QuickTime 6 delivered the MPEG-4 stream.

Detailed list of new Jaguar features

A Mac OS X Jaguar Web page lists a number of the new features found in the upgrade but not touched upon during Steve Jobs’ Macworld Expo keynote. These include AirPort Software Base Station support, a clean install option, new Japanese and Chinese fonts, multilingual spell checking, CUPS printing, FireWire audio drivers, better font smoothing on LCD displays, scanner support in Image Capture, and lots more.
