Adobe files suit to protect customers’ rights to use fonts

Adobe has announced that it has asked the U.S. District Court in San Jose, CA to resolve a contractual dispute that it has the right to permit its customers to embed ITC (International Typeface Corporation) fonts in electronic documents. Adobe is also filing an arbitration proceeding in London that seeks affirmation of the same contractual rights with Monotype fonts.

Use “Happy Mac” icon in Jaguar

Several readers let us know about Ryan Schmidt’s detailed intructions on how to modify the startup screen in Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar). With the introduction of Jaguar, Apple replaced the “Happy Mac” icon that has greeted Mac users for 18 years with a slick gray Apple logo. The instructions let users replace the gray Apple logo with the more familiar “Happy Mac” icon or any other 128×128 image.

Unsanity updates WindowShade X

Unsanity today released WindowShade X 2.1.1, an update to its utility that brings the familiar window-collapsing effect from Classic Mac OS into Mac OS X, and allows you to control window shadow settings. Version 2.1.1 brings several enhancements and bug fixes, all of which are detailed on the company’s Web site. WindowShade X is US$7 shareware.
