TouchStrokes 1.5.5 adds improved kiosk features

Niemeijer Consult today announced TouchStrokes 1.5.5, the latest version of the company’s virtual on-screen keyboard for touch screens, server management and graphic tablet users. Version 1.5.5 adds compatibility with iCab’s full-screen mode and includes several improvements to the kiosk mode that permits the disabling of certain keys, key combinations and other functionality specifically for use in touch screen kiosks. TouchStrokes is available for Mac OS 9 or higher and Mac OS X, priced at US$95.

Rendezvous gains approval, says Apple

In another press release issued today, Apple states that developers are “rapidly adopting Apple’s innovative new Rendezvous networking technology for incorporation into everything from consumer electronics to printers, enterprise database management and educational applications. Today Philips, Canon, Xerox, Sybase and World Book announced support for Rendezvous in current or future products, joining previous Rendezvous adopters Hewlett-Packard, Epson and Lexmark.”

Apple says Mac OS X-Only booting coming in 2003

Apple today announced at Apple Expo Paris that all new Macs sold will only boot in Mac OS X as the default operating system starting in January 2003. However, users will retain the ability to run most Mac OS 9 applications through the company’s bundled “Classic” software. “We’re happy to see Apple take this next step to drive adoption of Mac OS X,” said Kevin Browne, general manager of the Macintosh Business Unit at Microsoft in the press release.
