Dr. Bott announces MoniSwitch ADC for sharing Apple flat-panel displays

Dr. Bott today introduced the MoniSwitch ADC, a device that allows the sharing of Apple flat-panel displays with ADC (Apple Display Connector) between two machines. The US$299 device can also be coupled with DVI to ADC Adapters to include systems with compatible DVI graphics cards. The MoniSwitch ADC works with Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X, and will ship later this month.

Microsoft pulls “Confessions of a Mac to PC convert” ad

Microsoft today pulled an ad, entitled “Confessions of a Mac to PC convert,” which was purportedly written by a free-lance writer who switched from the Mac to a PC running Windows XP. The unnamed writer tells of a “much greater choice of portable computers and features, for less money, on the Windows platform,” that are “$450 less than a comparable iBook.” The writer also compares AppleWorks to Microsoft Office XP.

OpenOffice for Mac OS X public beta released

OpenOffice.org today released the first X11 public beta of OpenOffice for Mac OS X, its open source suite of productivity applications. The release can run on DarwinPPC, and Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) or higher with the help from other open source projects, such as the X11 Windowing System. The public beta of OpenOffice for Mac OS X can save files, print to any printer that has drivers for Mac OS X 10.2 or Darwin 6, and includes many bug fixes.
