Apple yesterday issued a statement saying the company would not participate in Macworld Expo Boston 2004. Apple U.S. market share drops slightly in third-quarter

Apple captured 3.8% of the PC market in the third-quarter of 2002, placing it fifth among computer makers, according to research firm IDC. Apple’s market share is down 0.3% from the previous quarter and down 0.5% from the previous year. Apple shipped 462,000 units in the quarter, compared to 488,000 units a year ago. IDC notes that sales of higher-end G4 desktops were down nearly 30% although total sales through Apple’s retail outlets jumped 70% from the prior quarter.
